Fire in Town of Culpeper guts historic townhouse

This morning at 04:31 local fire and EMS was dispatched for a house fire on West Davis street across from the Courthouse. First arriving units reported significant fire at the front door, porch area and fire coming out the windows on second floor. The home was built in the mid 1860’s and was of wood and brick construction. Crews were successful in getting a “good knock” on the fire allowing firefighters to get inside and get to the seat of the fire and extinguish it. The firefighters did an outstanding job protecting the adjoining residence and exposures limiting damage. Multiple fire departments assisted Culpeper Volunteer Fire Department in extinguishing the fire with salvage and overhaul operations that lasted until around 11:00am. Departments assisting were Brandy Station, Reva, Salem, Career EMS staff, Little Fork, Rapidan as well as two Engine companies from Fauquier county. Three firefighters, two from Culpeper and one from Brandy were transported to UVA Culpeper Hospital for injuries suffered fighting the fire inside the structure. All three were treated and released by mid-day. Culpeper Volunteer Fire Department thanks all the adjoining companies for their support as well as Culpeper Town Police and Public Works for helping keep the scene safe with traffic and securing power to the home.
